Longines
Ultra-Chron
Crosshair Dial / 1969

Intro

This Longines Ultra-Chron from 1969 features a stunning blue crosshair dial that adds depth and character to its vintage design. A truly beautiful piece that any watch collector can appreciate for its aesthetic appeal. It also includes a convenient quick-set date function, enhancing everyday usability.

Intro

The Longines Ultra-Chron was introduced in the late 1960s and produced for approximately six years. It was marketed at the time as “the world’s most accurate watch,” with advertisements claiming accuracy within one minute per month. This was made possible by the use of a high-beat movement—specifically the Caliber 431, which operated at 36,000 beats per hour.

Later Ultra-Chron models, such as those equipped with Caliber 6651 and 6652, operated at a slower rate of 28,800 beats per hour but continued to carry the “Ultra-Chron” designation and were built to the same standard of precision. The line was positioned as a high-accuracy mechanical option during a period of increasing competition in the Swiss watch industry.
