Longines
Admiral 5 Star
1972

Intro

This Longines Admiral 5 Star Automatic from 1972 features a vertically brushed dial adorned with the iconic winged hourglass logo and five applied stars—a hallmark of the Admiral series denoting enhanced durability and movement quality. The layout is clean and purposeful, with baton hour markers and matching baton hands that lend a sharp, elegant presence.

The stainless steel case has a solid, angular design with a screw-down caseback. Inside is the Longines Caliber 506, an automatic movement with date function.

This Admiral 5 Star reflects Longines' early-1970s design language—functional, modern, and built to a high standard. A well-preserved and historically interesting piece for collectors who value mechanical reliability and clean aesthetics from one of Switzerland's most storied watchmakers.

Story

Founded in 1832 in Saint-Imier, Switzerland, Longines quickly established itself as a premier watchmaker, renowned for its precision pocket watches. Throughout the late 19th and early 20th centuries, the brand garnered international acclaim, earning awards at world’s fairs and becoming synonymous with accurate timekeeping. Longines played a pivotal role in the development of sports timing and aviation, serving as the official timekeeper for various events.

Despite its modern lineup within the Swatch Group, vintage Longines watches remain on par with other prestigious brands like Omega and IWC, both in terms of craftsmanship and heritage.
